Eco-Wednesday: Be Green Tip of the Day: Get Solar Panels on Your House STAT

November 9, 2016 Loveley

Today's tip and explanation is pretty short.  Get solar panels.  We use electricity, there's no real way around it.  Well, there is, but unless you want to go full-on-Amish, there isn't.  So, I say we go solar.  The coal industry is literally killing us. Just look at cancer rates around areas that burn coal, or where coal ash ends up.  We need to do more, and it is getting easier and easier.

Every 24 hours, enough sunlight touches the Earth to provide the energy for the entire planet for 24 years. (from Martha Maeda)

That is amazing.  And we need to harnass this ASAP.  Burning coal for electricity is gross and harmful to EVERYONE.  So why wouldn't we switch to solar?

And solar panels will eventually pay for themselves in savings, and then save you money after that.  It's a win-win.

You can pay up front, or just lease them, and pay little to no money down.  Trust me, this is a financial win-win situation.  If you would like to know more about buying vs. leasing solar panels, click here for a breakdown.

Designwise, We've all seen the traditional solar panels on houses (see lead picture at the top), which are great, but, if you're if you're looking to replace your roof, and you want to add solar at the same time, check out these roof tiles with solar cells built into them:

The Tesla company just developed these, and they say that they are at a"Lower cost than a traditional roof when combined with projected utility bill savings."  So, not only do they look great, but they save you money on a new roof, along with savings on your electric bill.

Check out their site for details.

The fact is, we need to do something.  And here's something you can do that benefits the planet and your wallet.  Whether you get traditional panels or go fancy-pants with these new solar roof tiles, I say go for it!  I see these roof tiles in our future.....
