Ahhhhh, it's that time of year again. Time to make promises of self-improvement to ourselves. Before I get to what my resolutions for 2018 are, let's talk about 2017.Read More
Hi there, people! Long time no see! It’s been a VERY busy year, so it’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I thought I would start it back up with a tour of our house decorated for Christmas.Read More
Okay, so SERIOUSLY. Longest project ever, right? I originally posted the start of this project here last August. WHAT?! Ummmmm....okay, so that's only a year, right? Oy! Well, the bathroom has been mostly done and generally functional for months now, BUT, all the little things that had to happen for me to actually take any pictures of it didn't happen until just the past few weeks. As all you fellow busy moms know, things fall to the wayside and sit around half-done for long periods of time. So, I FINALLY found some time to get some of the little things done that have prevented me from saying I'm DONE DONE DONE with this room. Not like, fancy interior designer done, but done, like, "SEEEEEE YA, bathroom! I'm not doing anything else to you ever again unless another flood comes thru." Now I will just look around and say, oooh, ahhh, pretty! instead of, SIGH....I still need to do this or that (wah! cry-face emoji). So, come, check out my bathroom!Read More
This is a 20+ year throwback to my absolute FAVORITE band/musician prior to Lana. I'm talking about Garbage, people! You know?! Shirley Manson and all her grunginess! Sigh! Back to the 90s! The best decade IMO. I used to listen to that first (self-titled) Garbage CD over and over and over and over and over and over and over again in high school. And then! One of my other favorite things back then came out, and that's the movie, Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio!Read More
OMG. It feels like FOREVER since I've posted here! It's been over a month, so yeah, like forever. Well, I'm still here, but life has been CRAZY busy lately, as it often gets. So, what's been going on in the past month? Well, I was offered a new job that I wanted, YAY! If you know me, you know that I've been wanting to work from home since the beginning of time. Well, actually, to be totally honest, I've been wanting to be a stay-at-home-mom, but that's never been in the cards (so far at least - I still have my off-the-grids-live-off-the-land plans), so, this was my next best thing. Now, it's finally happening! God has heard all my prayers, and also clearly listened in on every meeting I've ever sat in at my old job since I would make sure to mention that I should be working from home to all of my coworkers EVERY time we had a meeting, and He has decided to give it to me. So, my new job is supposedly going to be way flexible with that. I can't wait. So, yeah. That happened. Then we went to beautiful Florida for a little vacation with my awesome in-laws. THEN, right after that, I flew to Massachusetts (that was something new) for a new hire orientation for my new job. And, THEN, through all that, all the usual daily (meaning, most important) stuff: Being a mom, being a wife, being a daughter, trying to stay sane. The usual. SO, that's where I've been and what I've been up to. Just super busy.
Now that I've got a second to catch my breath, I want to get back into my projects (aka finish up all my never-ending projects) and post some more here. Didya miss me?!
If you have been following along on this project, you know that I've gotten all the pieces and just had to put them together.
Just to recap, this "makeover" had nothing to do with me not liking how it looked before. I LOVED how it was before, and I had tons of storage, BUT, it was completely non-functional for what we needed.Read More
Okay, so last time we talked about my entryway, we talked about benches, because one of the main problems was that it was not functional, and we needed a place to put our butts while we took off our shoes. Well, that problem was solved (thanks for saving the day again, Craigslist!). Next on the list of issues....where the heck are we supposed to put our coats and shoes? Previously, since our closet is already jam-packed with our millions of coats (why? why? WHY do we have so many?? maybe that needs to be my next project....), we were just throwing them on the floor and wading thru that mess every day. It was soooo fun....I loved digging thru that pile of crap in order to find stuff. And, now that the credenza is gone (sob!), where do we put our lamp? And trust me, this was a big priority because that lamp was one of our main light sources at night. Once we didn't have a place to put it and didn't use it, it was dark in there...like, way depressing. So, temporarily I just set it on the bench and turned it on.Read More
Soooooo, if you're Catholic, you may be in the same boat as me today; having given something up for Lent. It's day 4, and what did I give up? (Hint: Look at the picture above and the title of this post - duh!)Read More
Okay, so this is technically a kids' song from the soundtrack of a kid movie, BUT, that doesn't mean that it's not for grown-ups too. At our house, my hubs is always playing "positive" music for the kids. Meaning, something with a positive message. Because whatever we surround ourselveswith and listen to is what we create inside ourselves. So, since we're trying to raise some peace-loving kids, that's what he plays. We listen to a lot of reggae :) Anyway, this song is "We're Going to Be Friends" from the soundtrack, Jack Johnson and Friends: Sing-a-longs and Lullabies for the film Curious George. This is on one of the Pandora stations he has for the kids, and you know what? I LOVE this song. It's just a happy song with beach-y peaced-out vibes that works for everyone. With Lent coming up (which I'll be writing about tomorrow), I want to just bring more positivity into my world. So, here it is below. If you're a grown up, just enjoy, and if you're a grown-up with kids, play it for them too. Really, this whole soundtrack is awesome. Oh, and if you want to read a little more about Jack Johnson and his do-gooding and greenie ways, you can check out this article or this one from musicforgood.tv
Sooooooo, if you've been following along with this blog, you know that I've started a few projects, and I don't think I've given you a final reveal on any of them yet. There's the front porch makeover, and the basement bathroom makeover that are still not totally done yet.... You know why? Because this isn't HGTV, it's real life! :) Well, in the midst of those projects, and the kids and work, and the husband, and all the other people and things in my life, I've started a new project (makes sense, right?) So, here, it is!Read More
Okay, so due to the insanely gorgeous and strangely warm February weather, I was going to go with a summery and sunny kind of song, BUT....I just found out (thanks, Nicole!) that Lana has a new song out, officially I mean, so I can't just not include that today! The name of the song is Love, and it is her newest single since 2015, so I was super excited. Well, I gave it a listen without the video. I gotta say, initially, I didn't love it. It's different than her songs that I love best. But, I've listened to it a couple times since and it has actually grown on me. It's got those vintage-y types of vibes that she is known for, but in a different way than her Ultraviolence album. THEN, today I watched the video for the song. And I think it solidified my feelings in the Like It category. Can't say I love it yet, but give it a little time, and I may upgrade it to Love It. Of course I will, Lana is my girl! Give it a listen and see what you think! Below is the video for it.
So, a vegan, a wannabee-vegetarian, and two little picky sometimes-vegetarian/sometimes-meat-atarians walk into a restaurant…..
Okay, so here’s another post about feeding my family. Why? Because finding something that we all can eat, and that my little humans will actually eat, is an accomplishment! The struggle is real!Read More
REALLY!? Me too! Yay! Let's follow each other :) You can find me at @lovelyloveley
Happy Wednesday! So, if you know me, you know I'm always trying to find ways to cut down on our household waste, especially plastic. I've done pretty good with stuff, but one thing that's always nagged at me is the plastic containers that all the beauty/grooming stuff comes in. Yes, I recycle everything I can, but I also know that the rate of recycling is pretty low, so I would rather just avoid the packaging to begin with. Plus, I don't want to support the making of the plastic in general. I mean, imagine all the shampoo bottles that get used by one person in a year. Now imagine how many years that is in a lifetime. Then imagine that multiplied by the billions of people in the world. UG. SO, now that I've depressed you, I'm going to tell you the solution for that! Shampoo BARS! No plastic bottles, PLUS, there are awesome options out there. This isn't just for Birkenstock-wearing, patchouli-smelling, dreadlocked hippies! Not that I have a problem with them, because in fact, if my husband still had thick hair he would be exactly that! :)Read More
Sooooo, if you've been reading my blog posts, you've probably heard me refer fondly to the 90s. Hello?! They were the best. Only regret: Skinny eyebrows were in at that time, and I naturally had big caterpillars on my face (as every Indian gal does). So, of course I plucked them to oblivion as many teenagers of that time period did. And, now I want my caterpillars back, not because big eyebrows are big now, but because looking at things with my grown up eyes vs. my teenage trying-to-follow-what-you-see-in-a-magazine eyes, now I see how nice thick and full eyebrows are. But alas, due to that early plucking, they will never be the caterpillars again.....Damn you Pam Anderson with your Baywatch eyebrows!
Okay, so that had nothing whatsoever to do with Music Monday, but, it is a 90s-related regret. What is NOT a 90s-related regret however, is my still-going-strong love of early Jewel.Read More
Happy Wednesday! It's snowy, gray, and cold outside, but I'm pretending it's sunny and balmy instead! It's totally working too! Until I look outside. :)
Okay, so here's your eco-Wednesday tip, the whys and the what elses. A LOT of people use dryer sheets when they dry their clothes? Why? So your clothes smell like factory-made fresh rain or a mountain spring? So you can avoid static cling that would be traumatically embarassing and cause you to lose your friends and strangers to point and laugh? Or because you just think this is a requirement of laundry and you've never known anything else? Well, whatever the reason is, I'm letting you know, you do not need them! We haven't used dryer sheets in.....ever. And, we are just fine!Read More
Good morning and happy Monday! Okay, so I try to keep most of my political views out of this blog because that just takes us down a negative path (but if you're interested in that stuff and want to sign petitions with me, you can find me on Facebook!), and I want to keep this space free of the heavy and depressing stuff. BUT, the song I picked for today's Music Monday is exactly what we need to try to keep in mind as we go thru our day, especially if you're worrying about all the insanity going on in our world. As scary as things become, we must keep a positive attitude! Or at least we should be positive in between our ranting :)Read More
Hey busy parents! Hey busy single people! Hey lazy-cookers! Hey people who care about kinda-heatlhy eating! Hey people who fit more than one of those categories! Okay, so that would be me (except the single people part). Sooooooo, I'm always ridiculously busy and am always struggling to find a good healthy meal for the kids. Cuz honestly, if it weren't for them, I'd probably just be eating Ramen noodles and pizza rolls every night (yum!). And, then, add on top of that my hatred for cooking and all things involved in prepping to cook. Well, I do have ONE go-to meal that I can rely on and not feel guilty about. Which is good because I spend a large portion of my waking moments with total mom-guilt about everything (real and imagined).
And yes, there's a gluten-free option or a vegan option, so if that's you, keep reading too!Read More
Sooooo, I was browsing Netflix the other night, looking for a new show to obsess over, and I came across Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. So, I thought I'd give it a try (ummmm, yeah....). Anyway, there was this one scene in the first episode that totally made me freak out...like, "do people seriously do this?!?!?!"Read More
Hey there people! It's late in the day, but here's today's Music Monday song pick: Imagine by John Lennon. This is in honor of Marting Luther King Jr. day because it's about the peace that is possible if we all work towards it. That's the goal people! Get it together!
