Eco-Wednesday: Be Green Tip of the Day: Skip the Ziploc for Packed Lunches

HI Friends! Another Wednesday and another way to save the planet, and in turn, save yourself!

Do you pack lunches for yourself or your kids?  One thing almost everyone seems to use are the Ziploc bags (or some other brand) for keeping a sandwich or snack in, ESPECIALLY for kids' lunches.  They're super convenient, keep things separate, they're lightweight, and you can just throw them out when you're done.  What could be better, right?!

Well, one downfall of that plastic bag is that it ends up in a landfill, and we don't want that, right? (Resounding "right!")  So, what else can we do?   Well, here are a few options:

1. Use tupperware. or some other hard and reusable container.  Glass tupperware if you want to avoid plastic, like me.  Or even metal.  This is nice because you can keep reusing, it, and you don't create a bunch of waste.

2. Use a reusable fabric sandwich/snack bag.  You can make these yourself or buy one.  They can be found on Etsy, or other sites.  You can find DIY instructions online, here or here are some examples.  These are nice because you can keep reusing them, and they're lightweight like a Ziploc bag.

3. Use a little paper sandwich pouch, or wrap it in paper wrap and tape it all old-fashioned style. This is for those that like the disposable aspect of the Ziploc bags. You can buy a roll of food paper, or you can buy a pack of the individual pouches.  These do end up in the garbage, BUT, they aren't plastic, so they will actually break down, which is awesome.

Hope you learned something and that you are able to put this super green tip to use!

Until next time!
