Last time we left off on Project Front Porch Makeover, in part 1, I was picking a new front door color. Well, I picked a color (or two) and slapped it on my door, and IT. IS. BEEEEEAUTIFUL!
I am a big believer in the power of color and pretty. Everyone, whether they realize it or not, gets happy when they see a color they love or see something that looks pretty (to them). Your front door is the first thing to greet you when you come home, so it should put you In a good mood when you get to it. Then, you take that good mood right inside with you.
So, as I explained in the first post about this, I've been trying to talk the hubby into letting me paint our front door a different color for about a year now, and he finally relented. See that first post if you need marriage advice about compromise, aka, getting your way (wink, wink). Well, he agreed to the color coral, which is one of my favorite colors. If you remember from the BEFORE picture, our front door was a cherry red that had dulled over the years. Blah.
Red isn't one of my favorite colors, but I can appreciate a nice bright red door against a neutral colored home. It's a "bright" color, without standing out too much; it's an "acceptable" bright. I wanted a BRIGHT bright color, a little less traditional bright. So, I headed to the paint store and brought back a few sample paint containers with 2 different variations of "coral". I schemed with the paint lady as to what order to show the hubby the paint colors in order to get him to agree to the shade I wanted, which is coral with a hint of pink (pink was already turned down as a front door color choice - poo!)
So, this is what I came back with:
And, what do'ya know? The hubby didn't really care which shade I went with, yay! So, I waited for a warm fall day and spent an easy afternoon painting the door with 2 coats of the Watermelon Slice shade., which is paint + primer:
Hmmmmm.....this was a really pretty color, but more orange than I wanted. Plus, with our black shutters and Halloween right around the corner, this shade was making our house look a little too Halloween-themed.
So, I grabbed the other sample container and repainted the door. You can see the difference between the two colors here:
BUT, here is the final result! Yummmmmmy!
It's kinda hard to see the true color with the sun all over some parts of it, so here's a close-up:
OMG. This makes me sooo happy whenever I walk up to the door and have to unlock it. I am in love with this color! What does the hubby think? He says he can't tell a difference between the old red color and this. Hahaha, eye-rolling emoji....and, by the way, can I just say how pleased I am that there's now an eye-rolling emoji on my phone?! I use it ALL the time. Anyway, so I'm super happy with the new color, and the hubby is super happy that I'm happy.
Now, next on the agenda for Project Front Porch Makeover.....those house numbers! Check back super soon for that post!
Until next time.....
